A letter to the Federal Alliance of European Federalists (FAEF)

Dear Dr. Klinkers,
Thank you for this information on the Citizens' Convention that the Federal Alliance of European Federalists (FAEF) is organising in response to the EU-Conference on the future of Europe. I shall disseminate this information, despite my deep, serious misgivings.
Over
3,300 Catalans face trials in relation to our bid to become
independent. As you know, on October 1 2017, and despite Spanish police
violence on a large scale, the Catalan people (residents in Catalonia
willing to decide our political future) voted massively in favour of
their independence. Afterwards, president Tusk persuaded president
Puigdemont not to apply the Law, and promised he would advise the
Spanish government to negotiate a solution. This never happened, with
the harsh, unconstitutional measures that primer minister Rajoy
decided to take once the Catalan parliament had indeed declared the
independence of Catalonia. This repression continues unabated.
Given
the utter failure of the institutions of the European Union (except for
the Court of Justice) to uphold and defend the rights of the people of
Catalona, I, a staunch supporter until then of the Union, that has
prevented a European war for the longest period since the middle ages,
am in no way inclined to contribute to deciding the future of the
European Union. I hope you understand, Dr. Klinkers.
