"There has been a political reaction, which all of you have been able to see, from the Fascist Vox party, the Popular Party and the Ciudadanos party - that chairs the Legal Affairs Committee -, a political reaction of satisfaction, which shows what we have tried to explain from the outset: the political nature of this whole ongoing procedure. There is a fully shared goal from the PSOE to Vox’s Fascism.

The objective is to send those of us who are here to gaol - Clara, Antoni and I, a decision to imprison us which the [UN] Working Group on Arbitrary Detention already described as "arbitrary detention" in the case of our imprisoned colleagues.

And the European Parliament will have to decide whether to accept this Spanish pressure and allow the imprisonment of political dissidents: three MEPs who won the European elections in Catalonia thanks to the same political commitment that leads us to be persecuted.

If an end is put to our immunity, European democracy will have set a very negative precedent for dissidents and political minorities to be able to represent European citizens on equal terms.

That is why our defence is not individual defence; it is a defence of the rights of European citizens to be represented, and of their ideas to be defended, even if they discomfort the political majorities.

Protecting minorities is the obligation of European democracy and we shall go to the end, with all the consequences, to defend this principle.

"Hi ha hagut una reacció política, que tots vostès han pogut veure, entre el partit feixista Vox, el Partit Popular i el partit Ciutadans -que presideix el comitè d'Afers jurídics-, una reacció política de satisfacció, cosa que demostra el que intentem explicar des del primer moment: la naturalesa política de tot aquest procediment que continua. Hi ha un objectiu compartit des del PSOE fins al feixisme de Vox, sense fissures.

Aquest objectiu és que anem a la presó els que som aquí: la Clara Antoni i jo. Una decisió d'empresonar-nos, que el grup de treball contra les detencions arbitràries ja va qualificar com a "detenció arbitrària" en el cas dels nostres i  companys empresonats.

I el Parlament Europeu haurà de decidir si accepta aquesta pressió espanyola i permet l'empresonament de dissidents polítics: tres eurodiputats que vam guanyar les eleccions europees a Catalunya gràcies al mateix compromís polític que ens porta a ser perseguits. 

Si s'acaba la nostra immunitat la democràcia europea haurà marcat un precedent molt negatiu per tal que els dissidents i les minories polítiques puguem representar els ciutadans europeus en igualtat de condicions.

Per això la nostra defensa no és la defensa individual; és una defensa dels drets dels ciutadans europeus a ser representats i les seves idees a ser defensades encara que incomodin les majories polítiques.

Protegir les minories és l'obligació de la democràcia europea i anirem  fins al final, amb totes les conseqüències, per defensar aquest principi."
