VilaWeb commemora aquest any l'onze de setembre amb la publicació en versió digital del llibre del doctor Josep Trueta 'The Spirit of Catalonia'. El llibre va ser publicat originalment el 1946 a Anglaterra per la prestigiosa editorial Oxford University Press. La digitalització del llibre ha estat possible gràcies a l'ajut de la família Trueta ja que l'original en llengua anglesa és molt difícil de trobar. Del text se n'han fet posteriorment quinze edicions en català.	This year VilaWeb commemorates September 11 with the publication of a digital version of Dr. Josep Trueta's book 'The Spirit of Catalonia'. The book was originally published in 1946 in England by the prestigious Oxford University Press publishing house. The digitization of the book has been possible thanks to the help of the Trueta family since the original in English language is hard to come by. Fifteen editions have since been published of the version in Catalan.
El doctor Trueta va ser un eminent cirurgià i fundador a Londres del Consell Nacional Català. El 1946 va publicar a Anglaterra el llibre 'The Spirit of Catalonia' amb la voluntat d'ajudar a situar Catalunya en l'escenari internacional durant els convulsos anys de la postguerra. El llibre denuncia la situació de Catalunya sota l'opressió franquista i fa un repàs extens de la història catalana, presentant-la de forma entenedora al públic anglosaxó. La família Trueta i VilaWeb han pensat que éssent com era aquest un llibre que volia arribar al màxim nombre possible de lectors arreu del món, amb la voluntat de donar a conèixer la realitat catalana, calia ara que fos present de forma completa a internet.	Doctor Trueta was an eminent surgeon, and founder of the Catalan National Council in London. In 1946 he published in England 'The Spirit of Catalonia', a book intended to put Catalonia on the international map during the troubled years of the postwar period. The book denounces the situation of Catalonia under Franco's oppression and reviews the history of Catalonia, presenting it in plain language to the Anglo-Saxon public. The Trueta family and VilaWeb have thought that given that this was a book was written to reach out to the greatest number of possible readers around the globe, with the aim of publicizing the Catalan reality, there was now a need for it to be present in complete form on the Internet.
L'edició digital de 'The Spirit of Catalonia' es pot descarregar completa o capítol a capítol, en format pdf i de forma gratuïta. Va acompanyada d'un arxiu fotogràfic i una biografia de l'autor. La web especial creada per a l'ocasió inclou també un text d'Amèlia Trueta, filla de l'autor.	The digital edition of 'The Spirit of Catalonia' can be downloaded in full or chapter by chapter, in pdf format and free of charge. It is accompanied by a photographic album and a biography of the author. The special website created for the occasion also includes a text by Amèlia Trueta, daughter of the author.
Josep Trueta va tornar de l'exili l'any 1967, després de jubilar-se de la càtedra on exercia a la Universitat d'Oxford. L'any 1977 va morir a Barcelona. Avui el principal hospital de Girona porta el seu nom en homenatge a la seva lleialtat al país i a la seva excel·lència científica. El doctor Trueta va desenvolupar durant la guerra civil un nou mètode per al tractament de ferides obertes i fractures que va ser després de gran ajut per a les tropes aliades en la II Guerra Mundial, ja que permetia lluitar amb molta eficàcia contra la gangrena.	Josep Trueta returned from exile in 1967, after retiring from the chair he held at Oxford University. He passed away in Barcelona in 1977. Today, the main hospital in Girona is named after him, for his loyalty to the country and his scientific excellence. During the Spanish Civil War Dr. Trueta developed a new method for the treatment of open wounds and fractures that was later to be of great help for the allied troops in World War II, as it allowed gangrene to be fought against very effectively.
