I am sure that the session would be of great interest to two former Catalan MEPs Raül Romeva and Oriol Junqueras, whom some of who will probably remember well.
Unfortunately they would not be allowed out of prison by the courts, where they are being held in pre-trial detention (along with a number of other leading Catalan politicians and two social leaders) on false charges.
I say this objectively, because German and Belgian courts have not been given any evidence of the violence that necessarily accompanies a "rebellion" or "sedition", and therefore rejected several European Arrest Warrants (which were withdrawn before a Scottish court could do the same); while Switzerland regards several other politicians in exile there as political refugees, and would not extradite them either.
No other national community is Europe has over a thousand people being prosecuted for their totally democratic upbearing.
So any and every statement on this crisis by the Intergroup for Traditional Minorities, National Communities and Languages will and would be welcome.
If any MEP or group of MEPs could organise visits by representative Catalans to the EP (perhaps with subtitled documentaries on recent events) to reinforce initiatives by MEPs Terricabras, Tremosa, Solé, etc. this would greatly help to correct the distorted image that some Spanish MEPs insist on disseminating to fellow MEPs, including absurd European Citizens' Award recipients.
