Background information on English versions of important texts on Catalonia

Do you have sufficient documentary input on your background knowledge of the Catalan independence process? Perhaps some of it is only in Catalan or Spanish, and that holds you up. Well, here’s some good news!

***** Click below on "Més informació" to access the whole post, if need be *****

The National Transition of Catalonia - White Paper Synthesis (2014) is available here in English:
This other link seems not to be working, on 7/11/2018):

This one does work:

Another important "early" document available in English is RESOLUTION 1/XI OF THE PARLIAMENT OF CATALONIA, ON THE START OF THE POLITICAL PROCESS IN CATALONIA AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THE ELECTORAL RESULTS OF 27 SEPTEMBER 2015.

How about the detailed Catalan Transition Act (September 2017)? Well, there’s an unofficial English translation of it).

The Catalan ministry of Foreign Affairs published an English translation of the 2017 Referendum Law, based on the text of the Bill.

And did you know the Referendum Act had a decree attached to it? Well, here’s an unofficial English translation of it.

What, in English, did the (unpublished) Declaration of Independence of Catalonia (signed on 10 October 2017) say? And what did the related text of the Parliamentary Resolution of October 27 2017 on the Catalan Republic, say? You can find it in Catalan, to be sure, but also in an unofficial EN translation).

How about the March July 2018 PUIGDEMONT -v- SPAIN case lodged before the United Nations Human Rights Committee? Again, there’s an unofficial English translation of it. And are you familiar with the July 2018 Belgian Lawsuit against judge Llarena? That’s in French and Spanish. But there’s also an unofficial English translation of it.

What would you give for an ordered list of many if not most of the court injunctions and rulings (and other relevant documents) on the Catalan conflict? Well there’s one here and another one here!

You have links here to older documents such as the Report on the political situation and the violation of fundamental rights in Catalonia submitted to international human rights and civil rights organisationby a dozen Catalan organisations as early as March 2017.

Here is a link to a report drafted by Col·lectiu Praga (of jurists) and signed (up to February 2018) by 650 jursists), addressed as a COMPLAINT to the Commissioner of Human Rights of the Council of Europe violations of the 1950 European Convention of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (ECHR).
It concludes as follows:

  • b) Violation of the rhe principle of penal legality (art. 7)
  • c) Violation of the right to a fair trial (impartial judge) (art. 6.1)
