Mr President,

We write to you as lawyers deeply committed to rights and freedoms, to express our displeasure at, and deep rejection of, the decision to ban the conference"Catalonia and the trial on the referendum: a challenge for the EU" by the Rt. Hon. President of the Generalitat in exile, Mr. Carles Puigdemont, and the Rt. Hon. President of the Generalitat, Mr. Joaquim Torra, in which they were to make public the degree of repression that is being exerted against the legitimate right to self-determination of the people of Catalonia.

We consider this ban to be a frontal attack on freedom of expression and, at the same time as a further example of how Europe is turning its back on the serious situation we are living in Catalonia, silencing voices that want to tell Europe what the trial against the referendum on self-determination really means.

We encourage this presidency and the Parliament we are addressing to pay attention to what is happening in Catalonia and to decide once and for all to take measures to end the grave violation of rights and freedoms that are being suffered in Catalonia by part of the Spanish State.

We can only say that self-determination is a right, not a crime.
