Manifesto of support for the president of the Generalitat of Catalonia (17 SEPT 2020)

The Rt. Hon. Quim Torra is the legitimate president of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Neither the Supreme Court nor any other court has the right to remove him from office. The decisions of the people and the Parliament of Catalonia are completely inviolable. They have full sovereignty to decide who should preside over the country. And no one, except the Parliament itself, can dismiss an elected President. This is one of the most basic principles of true democracy. The president, as an elected official, enjoys full parliamentary immunity and no court should have the right to remove him. The disqualification of a president of Catalonia can never be in the hands of a court in Madrid.

The Rt. Hon. President Torra had every right to place and keep a banner on the balcony of the Generalitat, in defence of the freedom of Catalan political prisoners. Everyone is free to express their opinion, including the president of Catalonia. He, with his action, denounced the situation of political prisoners and highlighted the premise, increasingly accepted among jurists, that they should never have been judged in the way they were judged, as confirmed by a  recent Belgian ruling. To bow to the will of the Supreme Court now, is to bow to the guidelines of a court which is completely discredited before international courts. President Torra must be able to continue - without a doubt - as the President elected by all the Catalans.
