Public Prosecutor warns CDRs

On 2 April 2018 the public prosecutor's office of the National Court (Madrid) issued the following communiqué, which has been put into circulation again in the social networks in recent days. "The Prosecutor's Office of the National Court, in the face of the intolerable actions that the so-called CDR (Committees of Defence of the Republic) have been carrying out in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, informs the public that with the support of the State Security Corps and Forces it has promoted, and will continue to promote, criminal investigations of all kinds to bring to justice the authors and promoters of these acts of vandalism, which endanger not only public peace and the constitutional order, but the very essence of the democratic system that we prosecutors are obliged to defend.

In conjunction with the State Security Corps and Forces and under the direction of the National High Court, active investigations are continuing in pursuit of these conducts, beyond the mere and concrete individual actions, for the fact that with their actions what is intended is the subversion of the constitutional order, protecting and praising with violence people who have been judicially investigated for the most serious crimes that can occur in a Social and Democratic Lawful State, as is rebellion. Such behaviour, which in view of recent events could constitute crimes of rebellion, misuse of public funds and other crimes against public order, will not be permitted and the Public Prosecutor, as guarantor of the constitutional order, will act forcefully against them to bring their perpetrators before the courts".
