Here is a bilingual (Catalan-English) version of the Assemblea Nacional Catalana's Manifesto read in Palamós (and elsewhere) on September 16 2018, exactly 11 months after our former chair, and the chair of Òmnium Cultural, were arrested on charges of... rebellion!

Manifest 16 de setembre	The September 16th Manifesto
Avui fa onze mesos que l’expresident de l’Assemblea, Jordi Sánchez, i el President d’Òmnium, Jordi Cuixart, estan tancats a la presó per delictes inexistents que no van cometre. I en tot aquest temps no hem parat de mobilitzar-nos exigint l’alliberament de Jordi Sànchez i Jordi Cuixart i la resta de represaliats: el President Puigdemont, la Presidenta Forcadell, el Vicepresident Junqueras, els Consellers Bassa, Comín, Forn, Ponsatí, Puig, Romeva, Rull, Serret, Turull i l’Anna Gabriel, la Marta Rovira, en Valtònyc, l’Adri, la Tamara i molts d’altres, víctimes d’aquesta causa general contra l’independentisme.	Eleven months ago today, the former President of the Assemblea Nacional Catalana, Jordi Sánchez, and the President of Omnium Cultural, Jordi Cuixart, were locked in prison for non-existent crimes they did not commit. And in all this time, we have not ceased to mobilize ourselves to demand the release of Jordi Sànchez and Jordi Cuixart and the other victims of reprisals: President Puigdemont, President Forcadell, Vice President Junqueras, Minister Bassa, Comín, Forn, Ponsatí, Puig, Romeva, Rull, Serret and Turull as well as Anna Gabriel, Marta Rovira, Valtònyc, Adri, Tamara and many other victims of this general cause against Catalonia’s independence.
Tots ells han esdevingut ostatges polítics que l’Estat ens mostra com exemple del que ens pot passar si insistim en la nostra determinació. Ens volen aturar a costa de laminar els nostres drets civils i polítics. Avui les preses i els presos polítics, les exiliades i exiliats, les persones investigades i encausades, així com les seves famílies paguen el preu per exercir els nostres drets: El dret a la manifestació, el Jordi Sànchez i el Jordi Cuixart, i al vot, els presos polítics i exiliats.	They have all become political hostages that the State displays as an example to us of what can happen if we insist on our determination. They want us to stop by cutting back our civil and political rights. Today the political prisoners, those in exile, the people being investigated and facing prosecution, as well as their families, are paying the price for us to exercise our rights: The right to protest, in the case of Jordi Sànchez and Jordi Cuixart, and the right to vote, in the case of the political prisoners and exiles.
Fa pocs mesos els tenim més a prop, certament. Els han traslladat a presons catalanes perquè era el seu dret, i no per cap concessió d’una suposada distensió que no veiem en els fets. Això ha permès a les famílies accedir-hi més fàcilment, i a nosaltres poder-nos mobilitzar més a prop de les cel·les on estan tancats, però ni de bon tros estem més alleujats per això. En aquest temps hem picat cassoles, enviat cartes, interpel·lat a les institucions, arreu del món per demanar el seu alliberament. I hem fet manifestacions, concentracions, sopars grocs i organitzat tota mena d’esdeveniments, pacíficament.	They are closer to us now, to be sure, since being transferred to Catalan prisons several months ago; this was their right, and not thanks to any concession of an alleged thaw, that cannot be seen in the facts. It has allowed their families to access them more easily, and for us to be able to get closer to the cells where they are locked up, but in no way does this relieve us. In this time we have banged saucepans, sent letters, called on institutions, throughout the world, to demand their release. And we have held demonstrations, concentrations, yellow (fund-raising) dinners and all kinds of events, peacefully.
Però no només no hem obtingut la resposta justa i desitjada sinó que hem estat atacats, perseguits, colpejats i citats judicialment, i hem vist com ens arrencaven els llaços i les pancartes impunement cercant un enfrontament civil que mai i sota cap circumstància no trobaran, buscant una resposta violenta que no els hi regalarem pas, instigant un trencament de la cohesió que no permetrem mai. No caurem en la guerra de llaços, però tampoc ens retallaran la llibertat d’expressió. Abans es cansaran ells de treure’n que nosaltres de posar-ne encara més a les places i carrers.	But not only we have not obtained the just and desired answer but we have been attacked, persecuted, beaten up, and summoned by the courts, and we have seen how our [yellow] ribbons and banners have been torn down with impunity in search of a civil confrontation that they shall never and under any circumstances find, angling for a violent response that we shall not give them, instigating a breakdown of [social] cohesion that we shall never allow. We shall not fall into a war of ribbons, but nor will they curtail our freedom of expression. They will get tired of removing them before we get tired of putting them up in squares and streets.
I denunciem la utilització de l’extrema dreta per part de certs estaments i partits de l’Estat, amb l’objectiu de trencar el país i dividir la societat, i els hi diem alt i clar que no se’n sortiran. I de la mateixa manera també exigim a les nostres institucions que plantin cara a aquesta impunitat, que no en pot passar ni una més, que al feixisme se’l combat des de la legitimitat de les nostres institucions.	And we denounce the use of the extreme right by certain State institutions and political parties, with the aim of breaking the country and dividing our society, and we tell them loud and clear; they won’t get their own way. And in the same vein, we also demand that our institutions confront this impunity, which must not be allowed ever again, for Fascism is fought thanks to the legitimacy of our institutions.
La única cosa que esperem ara del govern espanyol de Pedro Sánchez és que insti a la Fiscal General que retiri tots els càrrecs contra els presos, exiliats i encausats i deixi d’atribuir-los una suposada violència, del tot inexistent als ulls d’Europa i del món sencer. En pocs mesos començarà el judici, i malgrat les irregularitats procedimentals, les absurdes acusacions sense proves i els evidents contrastos amb la justícia europea que fan envermellir de vergonya davant la inexistent separació de poders a l’Estat, la justícia espanyola ja té llestes les sentències condemnatòries. S’albira un càstig judicial injust i dolorós al que caldrà respondre.	The only thing that we expect now from the Spanish government of Pedro Sánchez is for him to urge the Public Prosecutor to withdraw all charges against the prisoners, the exiles and the prosecuted and to stop blaming them for a purported violence which is completely non-existent in the eyes of Europe and the whole world. In a few months the trial will begin, and despite the procedural irregularities, the absurd accusations without evidence and the obvious contrasts with European justice that make us blush in shame before the non-existent separation of powers in Spain, the Spanish courts have already written their judgments. An unjust, painful judicial punishment is foreseen, and a response will have to be given to it.
I tenim la força! Ara fa pocs dies, vam tornar a omplir, per setè any consecutiu, els carrers de Barcelona per fer efectiu el mandat del referèndum del passat u d’octubre, perquè Catalunya esdevingui un estat independent: la República catalana.	And we have the strength! A few days ago, we filled the streets of Barcelona once again, for the seventh year in a row, for the mandate of the referendum last October to be implemented and for Catalonia to become an independent state: the Catalan Republic.
Justament per això exigim avançar cap a la República catalana, perquè sabem que només amb la República catalana serem capaços d’alliberar els presos i fer que tornin els exiliats sense por a represàlies de cap mena, i per això no cedirem en la lluita per assolir-la el més aviat possible.   Perquè República és Llibertat, Fem la República catalana!	Precisely for this reason, we demand moves towards the Catalan Republic, because we know that only with the Catalan Republic shall we be able to release the prisoners and make the exiles return without fear of reprisals of any kind, and that is why we will not give up the struggle to achieve it as soon as possible. Since the Republic is Freedom, let's make the Catalan Republic!
